Iridium Studios, the developer behind the critically acclaimed Sequence, has announced its second title, There Came an Echo, a voice-controlled squad-based strategy game starring Wil Wheaton. To ensure an exceptional level of quality, Iridium has gone out to its fans to ask for help via founding the game on Kickstarter.
Iridium Studios is one of the first studios to launch a second Kickstarter campaign, Sequence having been funded via Kickstarter back in 2010. “This is mildly bizarre title,” said Jason Wishnov, CEO of Iridium Studios. “Traditional methods of funding for something like this aren’t quite feasible, and we believe that fans should be more directly involved in the development process. Also, Wil Wheaton is cool. Did we mention him?”
There Came an Echo is a real-time strategy game in which you, the field commander take control of a small squad with no have no prior military experience and are learning as they go. The script is very firmly classified as science-fiction.
“Corrin (played by Wil Wheaton) is a 31-year-old cryptographer and inventor of a very particular encryption algorithm, one that currently holds safe a shocking secret. His comfortable existence is interrupted by the enigmatic Val, who informs him that his life is in very imminent danger. You can use your voice to direct your units around a map to accomplish various objectives while at various points throughout missions, your units will make various observations and come back to you with questions. The game takes place in the near future, and features some advanced technology: directed energy weaponry, personal energy fields, and various other accoutrements.
There Came an Echo is currently being developed for the PC, and should release in approximately mid-2014 on Steam.
